The West Kintyre Community Fund is a fund set up to support community led activities that are supportive, positive, strategic, creative and help to improve the future of the community of West Kintyre – (Kilkenzie in the south to Whitehouse in the north).

Applications are now being invited for the three areas of funding available for consideration by the fund managers. Application forms can be downloaded below or contact Margaret Pratt via email for more detailed information

Educational bursaries for persons residing in the area undertaking a first degree, further education college course or approved apprenticeship. Successful applicants will be awarded a bursary of £1000 per annum for the duration of their studies up to a maximum of 4 years.

New small business start-up grants – grants may be available for any new small businesses wishing to start up within the area and who have a business plan that clearly identifies the goals and aspirations for the future growth of the business.

New Legacy Projects costing over £2000 - Grants of up to 90% funding may be available for currently operating community halls to help their future sustainability and reduce their carbon footprint by the installation of modern heating systems such as air-source heat pumps, modern high grade double glazing and wi-fi systems or for groups to start a new community project/facility. In this instance all funding offered must be spent within one calendar year of the fund being offered

Closing date for receipt of all applications 6th November 2024

The Community Fund disburses monies twice a year, November & June.

Guidance:

This single tier SCIO fund receives funding from the Freasdail wind farm and any future funds from new developments.  It operates the local electricity discount scheme (LED) for all properties  within 5kms of the windfarm that were built and occupied at the time the windfarm went live.  This part of the fund is administered on our behalf by the windfarm company.

The remainder of the fund is split evenly between West Kintyre CC and Tarbert and Skipness Community Trust, except any new funding from new developments.

Please note that the bursary is now £2000 per year from July 2025.

  1. Bursary:

Applications will be considered for persons under the age of 50 years and residing in the West Kintyre Community Council area who wish to undertake a first degree, further education college course or recognized apprenticeship. The bursary available is £2000 per annum, for a maximum of 4 years.

This will be paid in twice yearly amounts of £1000 upon receipt from the college/university/apprenticeship provider that the applicant is in attendance.

  1. Business start up:

Applications will be considered for persons residing in the West Kintyre Community Council area who wish to start up a new business. The business must not be averse to or conflicting, directly or indirectly, with any interests of renewable energy of any kind.

  1. Large project funding:

Applications will be considered for groups/associations in the West Kintyre Community Council area who wish to apply for funding for a large project.
